It’s been a successful end to the show season for NB Horse Training, LLC. A big part of my training program is working with kids in the 4-H programs and their horses, going to open/4-H shows, the county fair, and then 4-H State Horse Expo. This year all 8 of my students qualified for state and went down to Milwaukee for the State 4-H Horse Expo and were highly successful bringing home 4 Grands, 5 Reserves, and 21 Top Tens!! I couldn’t be more proud of them and their horses.
Some trainers like to focus on breed shows and high dollar horses and while I do enjoy those occasionally, I just find it more rewarding to work with kids that maybe can’t afford a horse that can compete on the breed circuits or afford to compete on those circuits themselves. Horses are expensive, showing is expensive, and not everyone can afford to go all out so I like to get those that cannot out there doing what they can, when they can and honestly most of them give those high dollar horses and kids that compete in “Class A” regularly some real competition, beating them at fair and state on many occasions!!
I also coach the Neenah Equestrian team, I have for several years now, and we brought home another District championship last weekend qualifying us yet again to compete at WIHA state down in Madison the end of October!! We have qualified to compete at State for 4 years now and brought home the Reserve Championship last year. Looking forward to another great competition down there this year. WIHA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Horse Association) has given those who ride horses a way to represent their school and letter in an activity they love. I am happy to volunteer my time to run practices and coach competitions just to see how much these kids can accomplish with their horses.
